Motorcycle Rider Protection

When it comes to motorcycles, the priority without a doubt should be safety and ensuring you remain as protected as possible at all times.

So, following on from our top five ways to increase motorcycle protection, we thought it best to highlight how the rider themselves can remain protected. There is no doubt you will want to avoid damage to your motorcycle, after all it is highly likely to be your pride and joy, but the most important thing is to ensure personal protection.

Unsure what to look out for? Don’t worry, here are the top five motorcycle products that you can use to protect yourself and put your mind at ease, leaving you free to enjoy the time with your motorbike:

1. Screens

There are multiple things that a motorcycle rider would benefit from being protected against in order to gain the best possible levels of comfort and safety. The first two that come to mind are debris and wind and that is exactly why motorbike screens exist.

Motorcycle screens, depending on their size and shape, offer varying levels of protection against the spray of road debris. Obviously the larger the screen, the more protection it will have to offer. Not only that, they also prevent being battered by the wind, redirecting the airflow away from the rider’s head and torso.

2. Visors

While there is no doubting the protection offered by motorcycle screens, that level of protection really goes to another level with the addition of a motorcycle visor.

Simply clipping on or screwing into the top of an existing screen, visors build upon the screen’s protection against wind and debris. They add extra height to ensure the rider can travel safely without having to worry about a heavy airflow or the road throwing debris towards their head.

3. Handguards

Protect your hands from that pesky wind.

While some products may get overlooked when it comes to protection, you may want to be prepared for all possibilities and that includes hand protection.

While motorcycle handguards will protect your hands from debris, their main purpose is to defend against direct contact from the wind, especially when travelling at speed (within the limits of course!), leading to a safe and more enjoyable riding experience. If that was not enough, handguards boast the added benefit of protecting the motorcycle’s brake and clutch levers from fall damage.

4. Engine Guards

In some instances there are products that are designed to primarily offer protection for the bike itself but actually protect the rider as well. This is certainly the case when it comes to motorcycle engine guards.

Engine guards protect the rider as they form the first point of contact with the ground in case of a fall and in turn, this prevents the rider’s legs from getting trapped under the bike, reducing the risk of serious leg injuries.

5. Hand Muffs

Motorcycle hand muffs are aimed at increasing convenience, comfort and protection. However, in this case it is the level of protection they offer that is being assessed.

On that note, hand muffs receive a massive thumbs up when it comes to protection, sheltering your hands from wind, rain and anything else the elements have in store and helping them to remain warm and dry throughout your journeys.
